Dr. Ngum Lesley Ngum is a dedicated researcher and academic with expertise in the molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases, focusing primarily on malaria. With a robust commitment to evidence-based research and practice, Dr. Ngum bridges the gap between researchers, policymakers, and end-users of research to promote impactful, data-driven healthcare solutions. He is passionate about advancing healthcare in Africa by integrating individual clinical expertise with cutting-edge scientific evidence.

Dr. Ngum earned his PhD in Clinical Biochemistry with a specialization in Molecular Biosciences from the University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon. This accomplishment followed his MSc in Biochemistry with a focus on Public Health Biotechnology and a BSc in Biochemistry, both from the same institution. Beyond these degrees, Dr. Ngum has pursued numerous professional certifications, enhancing his expertise in clinical research, quality management, and global health ethics, among others. Notable certifications include Clinical Research During Outbreaks (ISARIC/GHIDRG, 2024), Good Clinical Practice (NIDA CTN, 2023), and Research Ethics (TRREE/Hong Kong University, 2019).

Currently, Dr. Ngum serves as a Researcher at the Institute of Medical Research and Medicinal Plants Studies of the Ministry of Research and Scientific Innovation in Cameroon, where he contributes to groundbreaking studies on infectious diseases. He also holds a field supervision role for the Perennial Malaria Chemoprevention Evaluation Impact Project in Cameroon and Project Officer with ALERRT (African Coalition for Epidemics Response Research and Training) Cameroon chapter. As an educator, he lectures in Public Health, Health System Management, Ethics and medical Deontology and related courses at Holy Infant University Institute and formerly taught at Siantou University Institute.

Throughout his career, Dr. Ngum has demonstrated exemplary leadership in diverse roles, including volunteering as the Central African Regional Coordinator for ISHReCA (Initiative to Strengthen Health Research in Africa). He has also worked as a stock and assistant laboratory manager at the University of Yaoundé I Public Health Biotechnology Laboratory, gaining hands-on experience in laboratory management and clinical trials.

Dr. Ngum’s technical proficiency is extensive, covering advanced molecular techniques. He is skilled in statistical data analysis using tools like R and excels in experimental design, clinical trial coordination, and manuscript preparation. His strong interpersonal and mentoring skills complement his technical acumen, making him an invaluable asset in team-driven research environments.

A prolific author, Dr. Ngum has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications in esteemed journals, including the African Journal of Biochemistry Research, Pathogens and Global Health, and Fortune Journal of Health Sciences. His research addresses critical issues such as malaria drug resistance, genetic diversity of Plasmodium falciparum, and the intersection of co-morbidities like type 2 diabetes and malaria, typhoid and malaria.

Dr. Ngum’s work reflects a commitment to improving global health outcomes through innovative research and collaboration, embodying the ideals of a scientist devoted to transforming healthcare across Africa and beyond.
