  • Kick-OFF Training capacity building in data science and Artificial Intelligence at IMPM by World-renowned Bioinformatician and Computer Biologist, Prof Emile Chimusa.

The IBHI Lab (http://ibhi-lab.local/) at the Institute of Medical Research and Studies of Medicinal Plants (IMPM) in Cameroon has been awarded one of the prestigious Schistosomiasis Research Grants 2024, supported by the Healthcare Business of Merck KGaA.

This funding aims to strengthen efforts against schistosomiasis, a parasitic disease that affects millions across Africa, by developing an innovative data science platform and building local expertise at IMPM to better understand and combat the disease.

Leveraging the newly established translational data science infrastructure within IMPM’s IT department, fifteen competitively selected IMPM researchers are currently undergoing intensive training in bioinformatics and computational biology under the guidance of Professor Emile Chimusa from the University of Northumbria (UK).
