During two consecutive days organized by the Inqaba Biotec CAF team, 10 selected IBHI lab and associated members participated in an enriching training session on real-time Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (rt-qPCR), exploring the theoretical foundations, practical applications, and data analysis techniques of qPCR associated with genetic expression.

Day 1 started with opening remarks from the head of IBHI Lab Dr Nono, emphasizing the pivotal role of qPCR in contemporary molecular biology research and parasitic diseases. Under the expert guidance of Inqaba Biotech staff, participants navigated through the generalities of Real-Time PCR and the nuances between qualitative and quantitative analysis, laying a robust foundation for the learning journey. Before immersion into bench work, participants were enlightened on safety precautions imperative in a molecular biology laboratory. Ensuring adherence to safety protocols is paramount to safeguard both researcher’s and experimental integrity.

During day 2, Practical sessions covered hands-on experience, from setting up qPCR experiments on the CFX-96 platform to Melting Curve Analysis including hands-on training on agarose gel preparation, gel electrophoresis, and Excel file preparation for data analysis. These sessions not only demystified complex protocols but also fostered a collaborative learning environment, where participants exchanged insights and troubleshoot challenges together.
